Kakkilayas are a respected
and reputed family from Bevinje, a village near Chengala, 8 kms. from
Kasaragod. Kakkilayas of Bevinje have been and are known for their public
activities, philanthropic and charitable disposition and social and
political work. Their ancestral house at Bevinje, even after 150 years of
construction, continues to be a centre of religious and social functions.
Kakkilayas, wherever or whatever they happen to be, are proud of their
Bevinje.

125th birthday celebration of Rashtra Kavi Manjeshwar

Kakkilaya and Karnataka Samithi Honoured With Suvarna Karnataka Ekikarana Award

Sri
B.V. Kakkilaya was honoured with
Suvarna Karnataka Ekikarana Award on November 1,
2006 at Bangalore on the occasion of the inauguration
of the Golden Jubilee Celebrations of the formation of
unified Karnataka State.
Sri B.V.
Kakkilaya was actively involved in the struggle for
unification of Kannada speaking areas and he was the
General Secretary of the Akhanda Karnataka Rajya
Nirmana Parishat (AKRNP). He was a member of Rajya
Sabha during that period and voiced the demands for
the formation of Karnataka both inside and outside the
parliament.
His
elder brother, Late Sri Sridhara Kakkilaya was
also actively involved in the struggle for the
formation of Karnataka state and he was the vice
president of the AKRNP. He continued his fight for
unification of Kasaragod with Karnataka till he
breathed his last. Karnataka Samithi (KS)
of Kasaragod was also honored with the award,
and Sri B.V. Kakkilaya, Sridhara Kakkilaya's son, who
is the President of KS now, received the award.
